CAMPUS FORMULA

Greetings from our camp to you all. Its been a while and we are aware. Such is life; silent moments are a part of the package. Let me take this opportunity to specially welcome you once again to the University of Competitive Choice. Yes this is a university. Bro, you better believe it. Long as it might take you to admit it, the fact remains unchanged. This is not a teacher training institute. We are here and we are in a university. Welcome to UCC, welcome to an atmosphere of constant confusion, welcome to a world of manual processes, welcome to a truckload of quizzes and assignments. So yeah, welcome. Say hi when you see me.

We love you and are always happy to see you come back.  It’s not like you guys are feeding us or doing our assignments for us. You know, it feels good to have people going through the same hustle as we are. And it gets even better when struck with the realization that there are some of you who have not even made a year round of this journey. Don’t be discouraged. We will all finish one day. I will today, and then tomorrow it’s your turn. Let me help you with this; very soon when Madam Charlotte Osei trends on twitter, then you know you’re done. But until then, there is a cause for this write-up.

As you anticipate exploiting the best out of the semester, we wish you well. And a gentle reminder to you - this is second semester.  Lolx, it’s such a nice feeling. Now lets get going.

You want to know the UCC campus formula?

You’re at the right place. Chill and scroll down.

Even before that, take a break, share this link with your friends and do them good. Oh you won’t?

You’re selfish. That should be first on the list.

Avoid being selfish.

Selfishness took no man nowhere. Never be deceived; you don’t know everything. It’s responsible to protect the little you know during quizzes and exams. Bro, don’t make yourself Santa Clause at these times. Or maybe you want to go home before your four year contract is up.  These are the only instances where selfishness is venial.
But outside quizzes and exams, lets create a solid force to combat the assignments and group works. Cover up for that fellow who may not seem committed to the group. Share if not all, portions of your assignments.
Help a bro; support a sis. No man is an Island. Reps should rise up and fight for the good of the masses. Piercing our backs and teaming up with the authorities to see us sink. You want to take first and second positions to yourself???
It never worked for any man. But, is it even needed? Didn’t that battle end in the high schools???

Cry to the right source.

In as much as lecturers and/or T.As have some power to decide your academic fate, they don’t have the final say. I have been fortunate to come across some fellows who put their all in these authorities. Most of them end up giving out precious sacrifices in exchange for tiny grades. No disrespect to anyone but if you cry to a lecturer, you will cry again. If you cry to a T.A, you will cry again. Know that there is a God that answers by fire.
Do your bit - study, do your assignments and quizzes and take the exams. Labour for what you can confidently sue for. Cry to God when they want to toy with your labour; then take a nap.

You are the reason the library exist.

If not the most beautiful and best situated building, the library is surely one of the best in these categories. I’m not always at the library but take this from me – you need the library!
Don’t ignore it.
Don’t always walk by it.
ENTER IT.
Don’t be scared. It’s a friendly pile. Make the library your friend. Have a daily/weekly schedule with it. It has every book you may need including the ones you don’t need. After all, you are in UCC to study. So go on - Read, Read and Read all you can. Make a 1st class degree and make daddy proud.

Make good friends.

Surely not all the people around you will do you any good. There is probably a thing you can learn from each of them, but know that you can’t keep everybody. Make the move and reach out to that lady/guy. Don’t always wait for them to make the move. It might never happen. Why hesitate to approach when he/she can help you with that upper edge. Remember to be nice to everyone as well. Don’t destroy friendships. Keep a wide network.

It’s still early days yet. The semester is still young and toothless. Have a personal plan for your life these few months ahead and discipline yourself to endure whatever goes into it. Undoubtedly, there are LOADS of activities in the womb of the sem.
When all is said and done, we’re sure to harvest the best.
This is all we have for you for now. See you when we meet. #love

MEN IN BLACK

To the men in black, the ones we trust
To them we vote, to us they screw
Servants they claim to be, I wonder who they serve.
From Axim to Yendi, Amedzofe to Donkorkrom, Bekwai to Ada I see them patrolling.
The time has come, it’s ripe and it’s here! Perhaps the best part of democracy. It’s not as if we’re to judge their works. We wouldn’t be wrong in doing that though.
But it’s a time to maintain or change leaders.
Its been 4 years now. Bro, Sis, draw a graph. How’s your curve? A downward or upward slope? ‘Charle’ keep that to yourself. It’s personal.
2 months to go, or a month less
The state of them, their carefully woven words
As sweet as gum, but doesn’t stick as much.

A trigger of a routine is released. Its election time and they want to be friends. It’s not as if we can reject them. But we know they will.
And so we’re friends now. But we know it wouldn’t last. Oh Yes! We know it and they know it. We never forget them, but they will soon forget us.
They know what they want. They have a plan. They said they want to lead us, and we came to a positive consensus on that. Only to see them rule us.
They rule us as though we were a threat to nature. As slaves and masters, we live in our own land. But we are innocent and feeble, toothless and reserved. Our quest is only for what is rightfully ours. We want no more than that!

Oh men in black. Our hope, our light
Oh men in black, men full of lies
They come in suits just to deceive
We know their type, yet we still believe
So deft with their words, they promise us the world. We listen and we trust, they flatter and deceive
But they don’t care, they don’t even know
We have no hope, so rot and die?
We admit the times we talked bad against you.
We admit when we break our bounds and voice out our discomfort in ‘harsh’ words.
We admit those moments we paint you black to the world. We admit all of those.
But the different people we see in you today and shortly after we soak our thumbs in ink for your sake is what bewilders us.
To the many who weep on the inside for similar cause, we salute you.

For they get drunk with power, so full of pride.
We idolize these ‘heroes’ when to them we are absolute zeros
No way! Lets wake and act
Peacefully to the polls, Lets show some passion, lets vote on grounds
For we live to suffer if these men don’t deliver
Lets vote in some tools and feel at home

We need men, those who can lead
Not men in black

We need leaders who fear God above all else!
#Peace

THE YOUTH AND TECHNOLOGY

Technology, which is undoubtedly the greatest offspring of man’s knowledge has helped humanity in many ways. But the youth of today may not be helping themselves much in this regard.
We are exposed to so much information and gadgets in a day that we sometimes lose our common sense.
I believe we’ve been witnesses of examination times where we would task our calculators to do even the simplest calculations which we can always provide answers to even in our sleep.
Today, the internet is so big, powerful and pointless that for some people it is a complete substitute for life.
Why not fight for our culture which gets faint day after day? Konadu threw that to my face. In whose wildest imagination would he gather the momentum and courage to throw harsh words at the leaders we have as a country?
I asked and proceeded to respond to her question.Don’t hit the close button yet; I’m not going to hit on the stuff you deem ‘esoteric.’
The world is aware of the destruction we’ve brought into our lives with the sponsorship of the internet.
The luxury of technology today has given rise to all breed of dishonor and disregard for authority as a people. We sit in our chambers and run down great men.
Serial callers of such nature should understand that their identity and location can be tracked in no time; you can never be so smart with technology. While a few ones embark on prolific works with the available technology, a great number invest into contaminating themselves and nature through same means.
Why spend a lifetime and millions into building sophisticated weapons of mass destruction?‘’Humanity is acquiring all the right technology for the wrong reasons’’Are we allowing this saying to really take effect?
This generation has a powerful youth that's more than able to contribute either good or bad.Lets beware of how we use technology in these times.Perhaps you’re not aware of how people have naively exchanged their lives and property as a result of reckless technological control.
Once again, lets not forget that we live in a world of nuclear giants and ethical infants.
We inquire more about death and destruction than we do about peace and life. We’ve grasped the mystery of the atom and rejected the sermon of life.

SEMESTER REVIEW

It’s yet the end of another second semester; an academic year for that matter. My team and I wish you the very best this vacation until we meet again in ‘the pressure heater’ - the land of competitive choice.

Academically, the pressure was too much for me.
I couldn’t keep up with the truckload of assignments and group meetings and ill-timed lectures.
And that was how my group forgot to present a database management assignment when submission date was due.
It’s quite overwhelming to know that this was the same group that tried presenting the same assignment in time, but unfortunately, it was rejected.

                                  [Contemplating]  Ermmmm……

Did we really mean to present that assignment before time? No, I believe we  just wanted to show off and get  tagged as serious students.
Yes, [no explanation].
Had we even done the right thing on the assignment? Hihi ‘ey3 asem o.’ I can only laugh out loud      whenever I remember this.

‘Chale’, the assignment was  very tough. How could we finish so early and then fail to submit it when we justly had to?
Lolx, the truth of the matter is that we had just botched-up ink on the sheets. But the time between realizing the junk we had collectively produced and correcting it wouldn’t just allow us to sail through.

The pressure had been enormous for us all. But in all, special thanks to Lord, Solo, Shata, Onesyde, Future, Bright, Matilda, Patrick, Andrew, Nii, Patricia and several other colleagues who helped in a way or another.

What of you? How was your academic transit last semester?
                                  Great? Wow!
Not very good? No worries; if you happen to trail a paper, you can always resit. Only ensure that you don’t trail in the resit too.

Undoubtedly, last semester was indeed a glorious one. Having close to 10 days of rainfall alone evince the blessed nature of the semester.
Maybe we had more than the 10 days I proposed. Anyway, lets just peg it at 10 to prevent any unforeseen tiffs.

Mmmmmm_______ was I just talking about rainfall? OMG hmm
[..………]
Ermmm

Phil 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ]

I must complete what I started too. Talking about climate, it wouldn’t be fair not to touch on ‘oga’ sun.
I believe many of us received the greatest surprise pack from nature last semester. I was vastly puzzled and riled altogether.
Who at all had been bewitched to believe that he could compete with the sun for being the hottest thing on planet earth?
The sun really showed off. A little research I undertook proved that over 80% of students wouldn’t have to buy body creams to school next semester.
The 20% will probably account for our ladies and a few ‘Bukom Banku’ – like guys who wouldn’t allow anything to take the place of their body creams.
You’d agree with me that you just couldn’t stand the heat and sweat after applying pomade especially when you’re to walk to lectures or wherever.

Again, the semester saw the annual hall week celebrationsI had always known that UCC had 6 traditional halls until last semester when Casley Hayford Hall reacted in a manner I deem disrespectful when they dishonored the leadership of the school by not celebrating their hall after they had been allocated a spot on the academic calendar. That was my notion until I questioned my roommate on the issue.
He has Casford in his veins. I was moodiness when he told me that they had already made justice to that, ‘only that it wasn’t felt,’ he added. I was fully persuaded after seeing this. [seeing is believing]

Oh father Casford, forgive your children wai. They might do better next year.

Big upps to the other 5 halls, especially KNH; you rock.

Likewise, the 53rd SRC week celebration was on too. My sponsors wouldn’t allow me to touch on that though. But all I know is that it happened.

YES! IT HAPPENED!

Moving on, the semester also recorded an overwhelming increase in theft and robbery
cases.

God knows I shed a tear and another when I remember the stolen bag which contained an Iphone 5 and an Infinix Hot with some extra cedis. Clare Tergu and Abigail Fordjour, you guys are real geniuses. Examination pressure combined with such loss should have been enough mental pressure, depression and a great knock-out blow for anyone to give up on school entirely.
Today, when I look back to those times, I can only celebrate you for your bravely nature.
Don’t worry; you’ll surely get new phones. Only that it may take some time. And be smart to leave your bags at the library the next time you have a paper. But you’ve to be real smart in order to get that through. Those workers wouldn’t accept to stash your belongings if they realize you’re going to write a paper. However, you can see me for tips on that.

Still on the theft and robbery issues, were you on campus on May 12th Specifically? Around the school-bus road. In the heat of the examinations and night studies, these ‘Amamoma thieves’ would do everything to impede nature’s dignity.

How could any student be attacked and robbed with a CUTLASS if not with the indirect backing of the authorities. The unconcerned nature of the authorities really risks the welfare of its students. Its high time the student populace be told the truth. Are we in a care free institution, a jungle or a maze of indirect slavery? This is simply INJUSTICE.

Insecurity in our halls,
Insecurity in our hostels
Insecurity in our very own university hospital
Insecurity in our lecture halls and examination centers
Insecurity everywhere.

I can confidently bet my ink and sheet on this; no one will willingly pay huge fees for such conditions.

                                  The truth must be told!

But in all of these, some of the victims that I personally contacted wouldn’t listen to the ‘fa ma Nyame’ that I continually uttered. They preferred to give it to 'antoa'. Oh yeah, antoa. That was an amusing choice if you ask me. Why would anyone confide in a god that has had its shrine robbed?
In other stories, the race to sit in the fully air-conditioned students office was on. All the contenders made their intentions clearly known.
Team Dennis, Team Democrat, Team Steward and Team Sosi and ermmm…….. I think that was all.

These are the guys who openly declared their intentions to run for the seat of SRC Presidency. Their PR skills were in full flight with flyers and banners, dissemination of mass messages and man-to-man conversations; all of these cut across. But what really made the difference was the underground works.
Congrats once again to Team Dennis. You proved to the world that neither can age nor currency have greater influence over any election. You’re a real gee. Have a great time with our issues.

Last but not least, the SRC Excellence and Innovation awards night which happened on 30th April gave birth to more controversies than awards. The event which was Hash Tagged #StrictlyByInvitation went viral on social media when the entire student populace expressed their dissatisfaction on the event as majority of students weren’t allowed entry to witness the event on the basis of it being strictly by Invitation. Let's see some social media posts...

I have some few questions on that though.
Who issued the invitations?
Who was/was not eligible to go?
Whose money was used in organizing the event?
I’m sure you and I can’t respond to those questions. Maybe we’ll have to find the organizers themselves.
One other dissatisfaction that I heard was the fact that some awards were given to undeserving winners.
Which awards didn’t deserve their winners???
I didn’t hear that far so anyone can brief me on that.

This is all i can bring to you for now. Thanks for staying with me. Special thanks to BD for letting this write-up come through.Have a nice time this vacation. We will meet again next semester. Until then, take care.

THAT SEMESTER

Who forgets that semester……?
That semester when you really lived
You just were on point; as though you were dreaming
With that strong desire to mount the seat of the national presidency
Management to you had never been that smooth and through
Academically, spiritually and financially you were on the top chart
Academic life seemed like that of primary four
The bridegroom had unveiled the beauty of the CGPA
Your foes could not behold it
To save time and ensure accuracy,
You devised an algorithm to produce this output (total debtors - bad debts)
That semester when you had a vibrant spiritual life
But who wants to reminisce on that semester
When your life was in total disorder
That semester where you still wonder
If you had 24hrs a day
You were lost right from the start
Until you woke up one morning
To respond to the greeting of examination
Then you realize you’d been a liability to yourself
Remember the curses and ill words you put in your own life?
Take a break now and forgive yourself

……………………………………..
That semester when you had nothing to do with money
Your spiritual life was nothing to write home about
And two molds of deaths awaited you
These only gave you grounds to write yourself off
But once it happened,
It’s a lesson learnt
Memories are a powerful tool
Accommodate them if they never want to depart
They’ll guide your path
Importantly, make corrections, learn something ; then move on.
But remember to
Always begin the semester with a prayer and a target.

BEFORE YOU LOVE HER

Be impressed of yourself
Before you love her
Thoroughly access yourself
When impressed; get engulfed in 'pride' for once at this time
Finally when you believe all is well with you,
Fix yourself within the temple walls
Proclaim to your creator
"My heart is fertile, my love is ripe"
But wait:
Even before you love yourself
Love Him foremost
Then proceed to love her
Never approve your name a curse rhythm on her lips
Let her not wish you dead
Remember to break your bounds before attempting to break any others'
For we live in a world of targeted salvation
But no one is ever okay with simple freedom
Its never enough to make it on a 'solo' line
Me, myself & I as they say
Grab her along
Exchange her soul for a crown
Hoping to see her smiles again that day
With a brighter platform to tell her
"I love you"

24 HOURS

We go out and come in
Back and forth; the ritual of the day
Time keeps running
But nobody seems to care
24 hours seems a lot literally
But we are never satisfied
While some want to cut off on work and invest into sleep,
Others want to work all day
In the end, we either lose or gain
Nature remains constant
For we all have 24 hours in a day
The route to becoming a judge should be a tough one
But what do we see?
Judges sprout up like grass everyday
Passing judgment on peoples’ lives
Though their verdicts remain unrecognized,
The envious have different eyes to it
Perhaps they never want to understand
How that brother sealed his success story
'His riches are evil', they claim
Losing focus on their own success script
But that isn't a concern to them anyway, f
or they have no life to live
Thus investing all their time into analyzing another’s
But In the end;
We all have 24 hours
